OIL PAINTING - JUST SCRATCHING THE SURFACE

Below is a slideshow of some of the oil paintings I created while at CalArts. There is a also a small description of the class and it's value to me, as well as a photo gallery of all of the images in the slideshow for larger viewing.

Valuable Opportunities

Being a student at CalArts has provided me with many wonderful opportunities. One of the opportunities I hold to have great value was a gem that I encountered within the Character Animation Department.

Working with Marjan Hormozi has provided me with the assurance that there are still fine artists, working within our reachable grasp, that have a high concern and awareness of their surrounding cultures and just as high of a concern of the continuous progression of nurturing their inner artist.

Marjan's approach to oil painting is built on the principles of using the white of the canvas as the light during the execution of our renderings. Then, with careful color mixing, building up the layers of color and shadows that are being modeled for us. She is always reminding us to be honest to what our eyes are observing when we approach our artwork. There is a truth in the way she teaches. This same truth shows itself through the art of every student that takes her class.
