The mission : Fill a store with muted color tones. Fill it up with oddity. Fill it up with discomfort.
In order to be sure we were able to authentically depict a convenient store, three weekends in a row, in a space that normally functions as a space for various different classes and production meetings, we took the streets and hit up WalMart, Big Lots, K-mart, ToysRus, The Dollar Tree and 99c stores. We arranged so that after the project all of the purchased items could be accepted as returns.
PEARL is a story written by Kate Marks about a young girl who goes to a convenient store with her mother. While he mother is distracted, Pearl is enticed by the stuffed animals in the claw machine to crawl inside the machine through the prize shoot. In order to escape a high tense, sexually harassing situation at home, Pearl climbs to the challenge while disobeying her mother.
